POP initiatives are easily incorporated into each care setting’s existing structures. Routine HIV Screening modules require less than 30 minutes to implement, allowing them to be integrated into morning huddles, staff meetings, and other all-staff gatherings. Affirming Care modules require 90 minutes to implement due to the critical discussions which arise from the content. Additionally, POP can be added to staff orientations, ensuring that new hires are up to speed on the practices and culture created by these initiatives. While POP trainings and implementation supports are delivered by PHIMC, internal Champions identified from existing care teams help reinforce the standards and ongoing opportunities to improve implementation.

Champion model

There are many heroes already working in clinical and community-based care settings caring for people and promoting best practices. Their stories of providing routine HIV screening and affirming care inspire others to do the same. POP elevates these heroes into POP Champions who lead peers in understanding their role in reducing bias and stigma, encouraging peers to be leaders, and keeping the conversation and initiative alive. PHIMC supports the efforts of these Champions and heroes to promote sustainable change in service delivery.
